Design Questions

  • How might we create a way for the relationships between museum staff, curators, and

artists to become a living prototype for honoring the voices of those most impacted by the

systemic oppression, and injustice that the exhibits seek to disrupt?

  • How might we make the co-design for relationship-building practices feel like healing,

restoration, and a space for something new?

The Experience

Over a few months time, we moved through a liberatory design cycle that allowed us to begin with deep empathy work across stakeholders and a collaborative synthesis of understanding the problem. We then moved through the creative modes of the process to imagine possible ways through and created a series of prototypes to test within the community and across roles and contexts.

The Deliverables and Outcomes

  • New ways of working and seeing problems

  • Ample prototypes to try

  • Momentum built across stakeholder engagement to be leveraged in ongoing change efforts

  • Practices for leading like a designer
