As an educator and leader, Mike works to help schools and organizations design joy and justice into their processes. Each morning, intending to make his family proud, he awakes curious about how we might make real change in public schools. So far, Mike has learned that navigating ambiguity at the intersections of identity and education requires thoughtful design.
Mike began his career in education at the High Tech High School Network and its Graduate School of Education. Focused on using project-based learning as a pathway for equity in our schools, Mike became a highly-regarded instructional leader, a facilitator for School Retool, and a founding partner of Blue Dot Education. As the director of professional learning and curriculum at Escondido Union High School District, Mike currently leads efforts to design innovative, equity-focused teaching and learning structures for teachers and students.
As a man of diverse interests and revolutionary leanings, Mike likes to solve problems through creative action. His leadership style is anti-establishment because he knows we must build new transformative systems to serve our youth. He wants all learners to explore the physical and metaphysical world around them by doing original work with adventure opportunities.
